Jayson Tatum is one of the premier wings in the NBA and leading the charge toward the new era of multi-talented athletic players that get it done both offensively and defensively. At the young age of only 24, Tatum has already been to the NBA Finals, earned himself multiple All-Star selections, and has been selected to First Team All-NBA. So with these accolades in place, it's no surprise that Tatums most expensive basketball cards have been fetching a significant price on the open market. With a career that's sure only to improve except if something terrible occurs, Tatum cards will only continue to rise in value.
Before we look at the list of Jayson Tatums most expensive basketball cards that have ever been sold, keep reading to learn a little bit about who Tatum is, how his early NBA career has gone, and what makes him such a truly special modern-day NBA star.
Who is Jayson Tatum?
Tatum is a current NBA player for the Boston Celtics. He was selected third overall in the 2017 NBA draft, which is itself an interesting story. That same draft, the Boston Celtics held the number one overall pick but traded with the Philadephia 76ers, earning themselves a ton of value by picking up the third overall pick (selecting Tatum) and a future first-round pick (which ended up becoming #14, where they selected Romeo Langford). Luckily the 76ers were set on Markelle Fultz, and the Lakers selected Lonzo Ball, which meant the Celtics still got the guy they wanted all along.
Since then, Tatum has become the best player from the 2017 draft class. He's a dominant two-way player with a chance of earning himself a First Team All-NBA and First Team All-Defense in the 2023 season. his past accolades include being a 4x NBA All-Star, 2023 NBA All-Star Game MVP, All-NBA First Team (2022), All-NBA Third Team (2020), NBA All-Rookie First Team (2018), and multiple college and high school accolades.
It goes without saying that if you've watched Tatum play, you'd understand that he's mature beyond his years, not only on the court but off the court. Tatum became a father at the young age of nineteen, and his son Jayson Christopher Tatum Jr., better known as “Deuce,” has become quite the fan favorite for the Celtic faithful. With fatherly duties and a budding NBA career, Tatum has managed to be a role model for men everywhere. Not only does his son get a peek into the life of an NBA player, but Tatum himself was lucky enough to receive the same upbringing. His godfather is former NBA player Larry Hughes, and he is also the cousin of the Clipper's head coach Tyronn Lue.

2017-18 Panini National Treasures Patch Autographs #103 Jayson Tatum Signed Rookie Patch Card
$193,200.00
Jayson Tatums most expensive basketball card is the 2017-18 Panini National Treasures Patch Autographs card from his rookie season with the Boston Celtics. The card is signed by Jayson Tatum and is one of only two certified MT 10s. There are ninety-nine other cards made, but again, only two have been able to achieve the pristine mint rating making them far more valuable compared to the others.
There is no doubt in my mind that the price of this card will continue to climb. Tatum has still yet to reach the age of 25 and has already led the Celtics to the NBA Finals as the team's star player. That same postseason run, he became the first player in NBA history to receive the brand new Larry Bird Eastern Conference Finals MVP Trophy, which is fitting given the history of Bird on the Celtics. Unlike Bird, who has much more expensive cards compared to the current Celtics star, Tatum still has plenty of room to grow. And hey, maybe one day he'll go down in history above Larry Bird in the all-time player rankings.
2017-18 Panini National Treasures “Rookie Patch Autographs” Gold #103 Jayson Tatum Signed Patch Rookie Card (#03/10)
$192,000.00
If you're looking for something a bit cheaper, you could have had the chance to pick up a similar card to Jayson Tatums most expensive ever, but you would have sacrificed 0.5 MT value overall. This 9.5 GEM MT Panini National Treasures Rookie Patch Jayson Tatum card was sold in April 2022 for $192,000, and a month later, the sale occurred for the one card listed above this one. That seems to tell me that whoever owned this card cashed out at the perfect time because if the GEM 10 MT only went for $1000, this card has probably hit its peak in value (for now…). Does the value really increase that much with the Gold Lettering? Guess so.
The season after the NBA Finals disappointment has Tatum coming out of the gates strong. An All-Star game MVP, a chance at the league's best record, and hopefully another deep playoff run await him. He's almost a lock for First-Team All-NBA and has a chance to earn himself a spot on the list of players who have made 1st Team All-NBA and 1st Team All-Defense in the same season.

Don't look now but the Boston Celtics may very well be the team to beat in the East. Currently, the Celtics have overtaken the Miami Heat as the number one seed in the Eastern Conference. Jayson Tatum is the catalyst for this turn of events—playing out of his mind over the past few months and putting himself smack dab in the MVP conversation. At only 24 years old, and perhaps not even hitting his athletic prime yet, Tatum is in his fifth NBA season. Tatum is averaging over 27 Points along with roughly 8 Rebounds per game. If you are looking to position yourself in Tatum's market, we suggest firing up a bid here early on. Offered is Tatum's National Treasures Gold RPA encased in a BGS 9 holder. This highly desired parallel is limited to only ten manufactured and currently only three grade higher. Supply cannot meet demand. This example is box fresh, boasting crisp edges, near perfect centering, and eight sharp corners. Elegant gold holofoil surrounds the large patch window which happens to hold one of the better Boston Celtics patches we have seen—a lovely two-color example which appears to highlight the top half of the ‘T' in ‘Celtics'. Compared to the value of other young NBA stars' NT Gold RPAs, we feel this card remains woefully undervalued and is likely to appreciate in value. This comes highly recommended by PWCC.
Hey, it's the author here. If you've read any other of our most expensive cards list, such as Tom Brady, you'll know that many of the cards at the top are the same. So for your viewing pleasure, I'll include some of the cooler looking/different variety of cards from here on!

In 2017-18, when the Celtics finished second in the Eastern Conference, Tatum set a franchise rookie record with 105 triples (43.4 percent from behind the arc). THe forward became the fifth rookie in NBA history and first since Stephen Curry (2009-10) to eclipse 1,000 points and shoot at least 40 percent from 3-point distance.
Anytime your shooting can be compared to Stephen Curry, I think you're doing pretty well for yourself!
2017 National Treasures Jayson Tatum Rookie Patch
$45,600.00
I know I mentioned we would be skipping many of the duplicate Rookie Patchs that make up a large part of these new players' most expensive cards list, but this one was too funny not to add. Imagine how lucky you'd feel if you pulled this card out slowly from the pack, saw Tatum's name, and found out the jersey patch you received was completely white and showed no lettering. What a bummer. I mean, at least it's still worth a pretty hefty sum of $45,600, but still!
Tatum went to Chaminade College Preparatory School in Missouri during his basketball upbringing. As a freshman, he averaged 13 points and 6 rebounds per game and earned himself one of his first accolades, the 2013 Metro Catholic Conference Co-Player of the Year award. The next year he took a massive leap, doubling both his points and rebounds and averaging 26 points and 11 rebounds per game.
2017 Panini Prizm Fast Break Neon Green Prizms Jayson Tatum Rookie Card
$45,600.00
This is a unique-looking card. The neon green background resembles some turtle or snake skin scales, with the noticeably lankier and frail rookie Jayson Tatum in the forefront. All yours for only $45600! This is a GEM MT 10 card and is wholly unique compared to the others on this list. I would consider it a worthy investment!
From the back of the card:
Tatum sizzled during 2017 Summer League action, averaging 18.7 points and 9.7 rebounds in the Utah Circuit. The No. 3 pick in the draft looked as sharp as Boston had hoped. More importantly, he looked primed to contribute as a 2017-18 NBA novice.
2018-19 Panini Flawless Dual Logoman #1 Donovan Mitchell and Jayson Tatum
$43,200.00
Two great young players in the game with very similar games. Both of these guards are lethal from long-range and very adept at getting to the rim and finishing or drawing contact and knocking down free throws. While Tatum is a rangier defender, Donovan is no slouch on that end and has re-invented himself after a recent move to the Cleveland Cavaliers franchise. Boston fans hope no such trade comes between them and their superstar Jayson Tatum. Donovan Mitchell and Tatum shared First Team All-Rookie honors after their 2017-18 debut years, and it's cool to see them share a card representing their second year in the league.

Wow! Now if that image were encapsulated on a card, that would be nuts! I'm not sure if basketball card companies are looking at creating poster cards, but if they are, credit me for the idea!
