The 11 Most Expensive Lipsticks in the World

Lipstick has been around for an estimated 5,000 years and was initially made out of crushed gemstones, oils, and waxes. The Ancient Egyptians even wore red lipstick to indicate high social status.

The global lipstick market has progressed far beyond crushed gemstones into more than a 13 billion dollar industry. However, its wear for social status hasn’t changed when it comes to its most expensive lipsticks. When the most expensive lipstick costs quite literally millions of dollars, this cosmetic staple is a means of screaming to the world how well off you are and just how high your social status is.

H Couture Beauty Diamond Lipstick

The most expensive lipstick in the world costs a whopping 14 million dollars. And yes, that’s the cost per stick. You’re primarily paying for the casing rather than the lipstick itself.

The casing is made from 18 karat gold, is studded with 3,700 diamonds, and can be engraved with a name or message that fits in the available space. 2,500 diamonds on this lipstick casing are blue, and the remaining 1,200 are pink diamonds. Luckily, the case is refillable.

This lipstick wasn’t H. Couture’s idea originally. They had run an ad in Life & Style Weekly Magazine for lipstick encrusted with more than 1,000 Swarovski crystals, and someone looking through the magazine got an idea. The excited customer called H.Couture to request a product like the lipstick in the ad, but with gold and diamonds. The company made it as a custom piece and now offers it to anyone with the funds.

The lipstick is incredibly high quality with an intense color and is highly moisturizing. It also comes with an elegant embroidered box.

While no other lipstick is as pricey as the H Couture Beauty Diamond Lipstick, several other lipsticks still come with an astonishingly high price tag.

Guerlain KissKiss Gold and Diamond Lipstick

Guerlain Kiss Kiss Gold and Diamond lipstick

Guerlain KissKiss Gold and Diamond lipstick is a more “affordable” version of the H Couture Beauty Diamond Lipstick, at $62,000 per lipstick.

The case and lipstick are made of a solid 110 grams of beautiful 18 karat gold, accented by 199 diamonds, adding up to 2.2 carats. It can also be engraved upon request. This lipstick comes with a black suede pouch, a black wood case, and a high-quality lip brush.

The elegant Guerlain KissKiss Gold and Diamond Lipstick were designed by artist Hervé Van der Straeten, famous for his jewelry sculptures.

This lipstick comes in 15 colors and is very popular among wealthy models and actresses.

Rouge G Lucky Bee Lipstick

Rogue G Lucky Bee Lipstick

This lipstick costs a more reasonable $290 per stick. Famous jeweler Lorenz Bäumer designed the mirrored case with an engraved stylized bee and studded rhinestones. The bee is the symbol of the Guerlain brand.

The lipstick itself contains unique moisturizing ingredients and silver microcrystals. These microcrystals make the lipstick reflective and give it a shine that other lipsticks can’t match.

Christian Louboutin Lip Trio

Christian Louboutin Lipstick

The Christian Louboutin Lip Trio is, as the name suggests, a trio of lipsticks that come as a part of the most unique lipstick presentation ever. The lipsticks come in containers that look strangely shaped jewels mounted on a gunmetal gray chain. The set looks like a necklace and even comes in packaging that looks very similar to a jewelry box. The set costs $270.

The three lipsticks are all different finishes of Louboutin’s signature Rouge Louboutin color. The finishes are Velvet Matte, Sheer Voile, and Silky Satin. Velvet Matte is a strong, matte red, Sheer Voile is a shiner version, and  Silky Satin moisturizes and has a smooth texture.

Bond No 9 Lipstick

Bond No 9 Lipstick

Bond No 9 is more well known as a manufacturer of high-end fragrances than a high-end cosmetics brand, but they’ve been expanding their product offerings. The Bond No nine lipstick line comes in various shades of red. Each is named after a different part of New York City, such as Broadway, Madison Avenue, and Astor Place. All of the lipsticks cost $105 and come with a gold case, gold chain, and a bowtie cap.

Christian Louboutin Rouge Louboutin Velvet Matte Lipstick

Christian Louboutin Lipstick

It should be no surprise that luxury designer Christian Louboutin has multiple entries on this list. The design of this lipstick is as unique as the previous Christian Louboutin entry on this list.

The Rouge Louboutin Velvet Matte Lipstick case has an old-fashioned Art Deco look, with a somewhat vase-like shape. The cap has a crown design that adds an elegant touch. The lipstick is the company’s iconic rouge Louboutin shade with a matte finish and sells for $90 per stick.

Serge Lutens L’ÉTOFFE DU MAT

Serge Lutens Etoffe du Mat

Famed designer Serge Lutens designed this $80 lipstick. The case is not fancy, though it is an elegant, shiny black. This lipstick is famous for being very high-quality. It has a long-lasting finish that moisturizes. However, it has a firm texture, unlike many moisturizing lipsticks' slick, somewhat oily feel.

Rouge Hermès Lipstick

Rouge Hermes Lipstick

Rouge Hermès is a famous fashion company that has recently expanded into makeup, and this $72 lipstick is the result. The case is made of simple but eye-catching gold, white, and black enamel bands. The lipstick is fragrant because it is made with angelica nectar, sandalwood, and arnica.

Oh, My Pink! Satin Lipstick

Jimmy Choo Oh My Pink

This $65 Jimmy Choo-designed Oh My Pink! lipstick is, of course, a bright and vibrant shade of pink. The tube has a shiny gold color, and the lipstick is etched with a python scale design and a “JC” on the tip. It’s made with Vitamin E, which keeps your lips moisturized and healthy.

Tom Ford Gold Lip Color

Tom Ford Lip Color Gold

This lipstick from luxury brand Tom Ford costs $60 per stick. The gold and black case has an understated, classy look and a retro design, with the instantly recognizable TF logo on the cap.

Balm Frost

Tom Ford Balm Frost

This is another Tom Ford lipstick. Unlike the restrained elegance of the Gold Lip Color, this one is sparkly. More specifically, it’s a sparkly pearlescent shade of pink. The designer was trying to get the look of fresh snow hit by the morning sun. Not only does it have a unique sheen, but it also keeps your lips hydrated while you wear it.

What Happened to La Prairie Lipsticks?

While Swiss luxury brand La Prairie is prevalent in the skin care industry, known for its scientifically advanced products, it no longer makes its high-quality (and expensive!) lipsticks with impressive packaging.
