Days after rumors of Rory defecting to LIV for a fat paycheck were squashed, The Telegraph has reported that Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy will be paid huge loyalty bonuses.
Tiger's bonus is expected to be near $100 Million while Rory looks at a $50 Million Bonus.
While PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan has remained strangely silent through the LIV/PGA Tour saga, he is expected to to disclose the amounts that top PGA Tour players will receive for sticking with Tour while other golfers left for massive LIV Paychecks.
The Telegraph also reported that hundreds of other PGA Tour players, current and former, will receive bonuses of their own. A majority of that pot (an estimated $750 Million) will be paid out to the top 30 or so players on Tour.
Early reports estimate that Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth could be paid $30 Million each.
The players will be required to stick with the PGA Tour in order to realize the entire bonus.
This incentive effort has been bolstered by the pocketbooks of a group of investors and sports team owners including Steve Cohen and Arthur Blank who own the New York Mets and Atlanta Falcons respectively. The PGA Tour plans to pay an additional $100 Million per year to PGA Tour players for their loyalty.
Thanks LIV!
The PGA Tour is reportedly allocating these bonus based on a merit system that includes media engagement and viewership, according to ESPN's Mark Schlabach.
PGA Tour Players are expected to receive their bonus amounts in messages from Commissioner Jay Monahan some time Wednesday.
